Product Care
At Nic & Syd we follow strict brand standards in our manufacturing process.
All Nic & Syd jewelry is nickel free, rhodium or gold plated, with each crystal individually set. To ensure that your Nic & Syd products remain in the best possible condition over an extended period of time, please observe the advice below.
- Exposure to certain harsh chemicals/environments will compromise the integrity of your jewelry. This includes, but is not limited to the following: perspiration, perfumes, cleaning agents, chlorine, salt water, and silver polish, harsh chemicals, perfumes, and/or lotions.
- Always remove your jewelry before washing your hands, swimming, hot tubs, bathing, doing household chores, using abrasive cleaners, before going to bed, or participating in physical activity. These activities could harm the metal and reduce the life of the plating, as well as cause discoloration and loss of crystal brilliance.
- Store jewelry away from natural sunlight and heat, in a protective (lined) jewelry box or a tarnish-resistant pouch or plastic zip lock bag. Do not store your jewelry in the bathroom.
- Watches: 3ATM (30 meters= ~100 ft.) Water Resistant. Splash/rain resistant. Suitable for everyday use. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, or diving. It is recommended if you need to shorten/remove links in the watch band that you visit a local jeweler. They would have access to specific tools to ensure proper adjustment of the watch to fit your wrist.
Oxidation
Oxidation can occur overtime. This is considered normal wear and tear and is not a defect. Things which may cause the oxidation: perspiration, chlorine, perfumes, cleaning agents, and silver polish. We do not recommend using silver polishing liquid. Oxidized (dark) jewellery does not benefit from being dipped in silver polishing liquid, as it destroys the oxidation.
How to clean your jewelry
A rhodium-coating or a rhodium-plating is added to silver jewelry to prevent it from tarnishing, and to preserve it. Never use any chemicals on your rhodium items. Never use toothpaste or brush with a toothbrush. Don't use polishing cloths that are intended for use on uncoated silver, or for gold jewelry. Don't place in an ultrasonic cleaner. Never use abrasives of any kind. Never use silver dips. Never use ammonia-based products.
